COMMUNITY: NEW CHURCH AFTER A TRAGIC FIRE
ASCOT VALE UNITING CHURCH
Location: Ascot Vale, Victoria
Client: Ascot Vale Uniting Church
Construction Cost: Undisclosed
Status: Completed
The Ascot Vale Uniting Church congregration was left without a place of worship following a fire that all but destroyed the former church building (circa 1890) - leaving only remnants of the buildings majestic facade.
PTA's brief was to construct a new multipurpose building; with a worship space, gathering and classrooms spaces and admin areas.
The new building is located to the rear of the site, enabling the new structure to incorporate some of the remaining structure not devastated by fire, which the existing facade stands facing Maribyrnong Road. The result is a collection of quiet and contemplative spaces which respond to the requirements of the current congregation and community whilst recognising the past.
